HIDs ara a PITA to troubleshoot! Is it the ballast? Is it the bulb? Aww, hell, it's both!!
LEDs are self contained.

it's easy with a spare ballast to plug in to see if it is the ballast or bulb, most of the problems with hid is the connections are not protected and corrode.

I can't tell you how correct you are.

Most of my experience is from Motorcycles running HID/LED/Xeon/et. all... And the corrosion is, more often than not, the culprit.

Dielectric Grease is your friend, but know how to use it. Most guys just goop the entire connection with it, and put it together with a nice ugly "squish" sound... and that isn't how it works.
