Who's gone beyond replacement 3.5s and Q-forms kickpanels?
Back when I was doing car audio, Mr. Clark had 10s in the kicks if my memory serves me correctly. I'm thinking that if he got 10s in there, I can surely fit an 8. So, I ordered some of these:

I know Soundstream ain't what it used to be since they sold out to the Asians, but I always loved their soft dome tweeters. They appear to be similar to the originals. I figure that if the mids don't work out, at least the holes are there to change them out. For just shy of $100 for all four, it's worth a shot.
I have a set of 4" MB Quart mids in the cabinet that used to be in my 79 T/A on a wedge baffle that fits in the center 4x10 hole, which my Bonneville has. I'm torn whether to stick them either in there or on the ends where the 3.5s are for a 3 way setup. Or, just leave it a 2 way...
I'm pretty well set on mounting the tweeters at the bottom corners of the dash; my red car is like that, and it works well.
Any ideas?

Build some kicks, put tweets in dash or a- pillar pods, and don't waste your time with rear fill. I went with mmats cx6.5 pointsource coaxed with an online cap on the tweet active on the amp, and some older beyma 25 something's where the factory dash locations were with their own Pac caps and on their own channels on the amp. Not too happy with the amp but the front has a nice stage potential with the locations and product.

I did door panels, since I need the room in the kick panels for the pcm and stuff.

I made my own for a set of 6.5" components. I still have my 3.5's in the dash. I kinda wanna try adding the q logic kick panels too.

I also made another set for the rear to house 5.25" components, I want to redo these with a different design.

Damn, dude! Nice work! How did you do them? Fiberglass resin over fleece with MDF plates?

I'm trying to get these 8s in the steel of the kicks without a protrusion. After a discussion with my buddy, I think the 4" will have to go in the dash somewhere..

I made upper door panels to accommodate my component speakers and I mounted my tweeters where the 3.5" speakers were.

Thanks. Pretty much, check the first few pages of my build thread (link in my signature) I have more photos of the process there.

I like those, they are clean. I'll have to check the build thread myself to brush up.

Was thinking about trying this method, did it affect functionality at all?
Obviously my set up only works with power windows since the speakers are where the hand crank would be, the windows function as they would normally even with the speakers in my Monte that have big magnets and are deep still have clearance.
With the speakers up high I feel the sound quality is better than having them in a kick panel or lower door panel and legs and feet don't block the sound and I also like that the speakers don't protrude but maybe a 1/2" or so into the interior.
I liked the set up so much I did something very similar In my Regal but used a shallow mount 2 way in the door instead of components but have new 3-1/2" in the dash instead of the tweeters. I have 6 x 9's in the rears of both cars flush mounted. (no adapters)
