Finally finished spring quarter and now i have time to work on the El Camino. I have a couple of dings and and body aligning before i can paint. For now i just started by removing or atleast minimizing a hit by PO on the driver rear corner. i had tried to remove it with a Bondo Sly Hammer from Autozone but it really didnt work. I got a real sly hammer and viola!

Re: SUMMER PROJECT 1979 EL CAMINO

Pulled the hit a bit more, but i hand bulges where i pulled so i used the Dremal to even the surface. Sanded everything down to the metal.

First coat of Bondo. Letting it dry before i used the Bondo grater.

Sanding it down with 80 grit before i put another Bondo Coat to water sand.

Looking good bro, i need to get to doing that on mine soon. how far down does the driver side exhaust pipe hang where they went under the crossmember. Can you see it that much from the side?
You can't see it from the side, but I was driving my brother in law's Camaro yesterday and my cousin had the El Co behind me and you can see it through the rear view mirror. I'm think of buying the cross-member to do it right. It hits on bumps!

Dam i guess imma have to too then, you should look into using the crossmember from a late 80's Grand marqius or crown vic there double hump and you just have to cut off like 2 inches from both ends drill the holes in the frame rails so you can bolt it in straight across and make a spacer so it mounts in at the same height. imma be doing this as soon as i get money to get my exhaust done and its cheaper than an aftermarket one

Re: SUMMER PROJECT 1979 EL CAMINO

The previous owners got Bondo happy and applied about 1/4 inch of Bondo for no reason. The Metal is straight no dings.

The Fender had scratches that went down to the Sheet metal so i Sanded them out

I have a lead for a posi unit on craigslist for $175.I'll probably get flamed for putting money into the 7.5's repair.
