I'm looking at a set of big block chevy heads on craigslist, I wanted to know if you guys thought they were a decent deal or a not... I'm not sure. They're a set of world (iron) Merlins with 345cc intake, 120cc chambers 2.25 intake valves, 1.88 exhausts the guy selling them says that it needs one valve seat replaced and to be resurfaced. The guy wants almost 600 bucks for them, which kind of seems like a lot, but it's almost the cost for one brand new bare unassembled head from one of the big mail order places. I don't have any need for them at the moment but I'm considering picking them up for a future engine build, depending on what feedback I get.

How much do you think it would cost to have those heads redone... Assuming it just needs to be hot tanked, the one seat, seals, springs, and to be surfaced? What about a total overhaul... New guides, new valves and the seats cut? Think it would be better just to start with new heads? I'm thinking about doing a blown alcohol motor in the future which is what I have these in mind for.
