FWIW, SEM shadow blue is as close to a dead ringer as you're going to get for the 81 blue, and wears very well. That should open up your search for a column to more choices.

Don't really need to stick to '81 only. If your ignition lock is still good, yank it out & reuse it if that would be a reason for a year specific column. You can use a '79 up, the '82 up can use the the '81down turn signal lever. As Ribbedroof said the SEM shadow blue can make it match.

Also you should be specific as far as wanting a column shift or not and is your wiper switch on the column or dash, do you want tilt or no tilt.
I believe 84' and up also used a different wiper motor and wiper wiring harness if you have a wiper switch on the column.

As mentioned, you can use the later column, the signal lever will go into the wiper switch in the column and work fine...I have an 85 Elco tilt in my 81 wagon (avatar) and am using the dash mounted wiper switch. The 81 coupe has an 84 MCSS tilt in it, and will be getting the MCSS wiper motor and harness (reworked).

I have a green 79 column shift tilt here that needs reassembly (which I could do) if you can't find something locally

Should not be hard to find. Wipers a big deal though unless you are pretty handy and have the tools to work on the column. Tilt, cruise?
