i recently did the valve cover gaskets on my 85 monte carlo, since its been back the idle is arond 4 - 500 rmps. it would usually run at about 6 -700 rpms.
i also noticed when i have my foot on the gas and keep it there, the tach will go back and forth for about 200 rpms, it will pick up ok, then b sluggish, and so on.
i need to replace the cat, and its getting a tune up soon. i just wanna know whats going on with it.
thanks

are you still running a stock egr valve? the first time i did my valve covers, i busted the egr gasket and had the same problem as you. took me a little while to figure that one out.

when you replace the gaskets did you remove your spark plug wires?....if you did you might have switched a couple putting them back on....
