Since the Drivers side door sag's and I find out the lower door hinge is busted. I am looking at getting a cheap parts car lower driver side door hinge off of ebay. The seller tells me in a message that the hinge will work on either Driver or Passenger side door and I am not sure how true that it, almost seems suspicious. So I decided to check with the community first before buying it. However this is coming off of an El Camino of the a similar year and door style of which is a part car, and I know I am going to feel a little ashamed to have to take a part off it considering the condition the seller shows it in. Someone could just buy the thing straight off the sellers hands and restore it, it looks restoreable anyway.

What is broken on it? The casting or the pin? You might be able to repair if it's the pin.

I can't honestly say that the bottoms are able to swap from side to side...never tried.

I do however have access to over 20 Gbody cars so could probably pull one for you this weekend. You'd also be supporting someone from the site..choice is yours of course.

Wait..I might even have one here already..

Hollander says 2 door lower is the same left or right, and fits 78-87 for both Malibu and elcamino. Other g bodys will fit too but would need more info as to car line and year.

For my Malibu: 1981 Coupe
The Sellers Infromation : 1982 El Camino

Fitment may be in question, but Site says it fits.

As I move the Door up and down the Hinge and Pin together (Door Side) move in unison, Seems like it's sliding around on the Hinge on the A pillar. Probably should get a Trouble shoot first. . If the price is right I may buy one off ya, you got a paypal account?

20323900 is the part number from GM. 2 per car. One on each side. The uppers obviously have different part numbers.

81 Malibu 2-door used this number. El Camino used this number. 81 A-body and 82-88 G body 2 doors used this number.

It will fit your car if it's what they say it is.

I always see these saying they'll fit 78-88. I do not know for sure if they do fit 78-80, however. Not that familiar enough with them to know for sure. Nothing I've seen so far seems to debunk this, but I'm not in the know on that. Perhaps someone with experience knows.

GM says the part number for the 78-80 A-body is 20009522, one on each side. Does not delineate 2 door only. Listings says "78-80 A" But this hinge also fits 81-up G-body 4 door and wagons as well. And I cannot find any GM supersession information for this part crossing with the 81-88 A/G body hinges. Thus, having no experience with these part numbers except by looking at pictures (which appear to me to be just like the 3900 part number), I cannot say for absolute certainty that 78-80 lower hinges and 81-88 lower hinges can be interchanged for sure. Can't think of a reason they wouldn't, but what do I know? There may be some slight changes? They appear to be the same physically. Maybe it's just one of those "oops" things in the books or I just suck at finding superseding information about this part.

From on a quick look it looks like a different p/n for '78-'80 A/'81 A27-35-69-80 (20009522) than '81 A37 (20323900) in the '76-'81 catalog, then list '82-'87 G (El Caminio(?)) & '82-'88 G37 same as '81 A37, with '82-'83 G35-69 same as '78-'80/'81 A27-35-69-80 in the '82-'90 catalog. Maybe a cosmetic differrence? Now OPGI list new repops for all '78-'88.
