Hey guys attached are a couple pics. I have a 96 LT1 carb swap with LT1 accessories and I have a 78 malibu body and original wiring harness

Take a look at the pics.

Could someone help me with wiring my existing harness to my 3 wire LT1 alternator?

Also I could use an explanation on the starter wiring (which wire goes to which stud)

Even though I could guess what goes where I dont wanna wire anything wrong here due do all the amperage. Thanks for the help guys

With the alternators, the wire marked rear stud is self explanatory. Be an old external regulator one, 10/12 SI or your LT1's, all use that stud for the same hot wire. You'll need an adapter plug harness for plug & play. For the starter, big ring with the fusible links go on the big stud with the battery cable. The small ring will go on to the what me the only small stud if using the LT1 starter, "S" stud on older big starters.

Ok so the alternator studs are the same for both new and old. Got it.

For the alternator, instead of using an adapter harness I was hoping to just cut and splice. ( Will the wire colors be the same - LT1 alternator has 3 wires , tie one back? )

I'm not familiar with the newer alternators after the 10/12 SI units but the red will be the same between the harness & newer plug. The brown should be the same but in past threads it was brought up about the need/lack of need of a resistor wire with that wire based on having a factory volt gauge ot light. Any other wires I'm lost on their purpose.

Ok makes sense. You said something about an adapter plug. Does such a thing exist?
