I have a 4.8/4l60e in an 86 442. It has a mild cam but is otherwise stock. It is a great daily driver......gets 20 mpg, makes a little over 300 whp, and is extremely reliable.

454 with a aftermarket efi setup and overdrive transmission and then daily it.
Put a ls3 with 4l80 in 80 Monte. Driveablility is awesome. Ly6 is great starting point.
if I ran a LSx based engine it would have to be a 6.0 with a 4" crank..
currently I have a 468 BBC in my.. avg 13mpg mix and 18-19 freeway with a carb with small flat tappet HYD cam and 049 heads..
do it again,., some ~265cc intake aftermarket ovales.. 22X/[email protected] HR cam with ~.600-.650 lift with a 4.25 crank and EFI should put it low-mid 500HP/TQ range
auto would definitely be a 4L85

I had a 454, 600hp, manual valve body th350,4.10 rear..in my 69 nova for years.. ran 11.10. It was fun to drive around town.. Sold the engine/trans and swapped in a stock 04 GTO LS1/4l60e makes 338rwhp... best thing I ever did.. it’s fun to drive short/long trips.. runs cool, starts up perfectly.. granted it’s the overdrive that makes a big difference..
