The wagon never had a proper bushing since we’ve had it. I snagged some nylon bushings (2 pack for $1.50 at Lowe’s) and shaped and drilled to proper size.

screwed it on a tap and used the tap like a mandrill. Ran it on the side of the bench grinder for shaping. Smoothed it out with 120 grit. Drilled it to fit the shaft. Got two springs for $3 too.

Spring is GM p/n 10236109 and is 5/8" x 2-3/4" long (in case anyone else wants to recreate the GM one).

The bushing is GM p/n 1377083.

I've seen a lot of places try to sell these things for 9.99 each because they're no longer made for GM. So let's just say an even 20 bucks plus the ride? And you made the sh*t for a couple bucks.

THAT'S thinking outside the box and doing what needs to be done.

I used a 1/2 flange nut on my cutlass 10 years ago because my car was missing that bushing when I bought it.

Your idea is much better!

Yeah I almost bit the bullet on a bushing and spring that would have set me back at least $20 when you include shipping. But luckily my paypal utility was out of commission and I was not able to complete the sale. As crazy as it may sound, I woke up in the middle of the night with a memory of rummaging through the pull out bins at Lowes. When in there that morning and there they were. Go figure :)

I had to cut off and reweld the bar on mine and raise the mount to clear my collector and I needed a shorter spring which I got from Lowes.
