Ok so ive been on Google for the past two days searching on how to wire up an ignition panel for my Monte and have removed the switches in the car to see what wires are powered when ignition is on and running. Also i have the wiring diagram on what wire does what, thanks to 85 Cutlass Brougham, and im pretty sure on what to do but i want to do it without turning my car into a fireball. I want to know on these drag cars when you flip one switch and it acts like the first turn of the key, do i need a certain amp switch and wire it directly or do i need a relay? I have the start button figured out but i want a switch for ACC, ignition, start, lights,hi/low beam, and turn signals. Any help or suggestion would be great if i get nothing here ill try the speed shops in town. Thanks

Well i gave up on google and went out to the car last night and just started testing wires. I so far have the cruise control eliminated, wiper motor eliminated, and figured out which ones were turn and hazard. The only thing i need to figure out is how to wire up so when i hit the brakes my turn signals still work. There is a relay pack from watson-streetworks.com that does this but its 60 bucks. I also have the new switches to turn on the park/headlights and working on finding a switch to run my hi/low beam. I also found a panel at pepboys that has an ignition and push button start on it.

Well, for the high beams, you could either keep the stock function with the turn signal stalk, or go old school and get a foot operated floor switch that mounts by the wheel well/kick panel. If you want to go with the foot switch, you could also go with the cleaner looking old steering column from an early G body and eliminate the combination switch for the Wipers/Cruise/high beams and just have turn signals on the stalk. It should just bolt right in.

Well my goal is to eliminate everything from the column and smooth it out. I have even found an electronic shifter so i can eliminate the shifter from the column. Now my question is, i got the parking lights on one 25amp switch and the headlights on another 25 amp switch. So since all i did was remove the wires from the main switch and put them on two seperate switches that equal 50 amps do i need to do a relay?

I would do a relay, but mount it under the hood close to the lights. This way, you minimize the length of wire needed for the high current draw items, and can run a low current wire to switch the relays on instead of running it as stock. You could use a power distribution block under the hood to take power off the battery directly for the headlight relays, just be sure to use a fusible link wire to run from the battery to the distribution block to avoid a fire in case of a short. For the relays, go pull them off the firewall of a Cavalier or something similarly disgusting, from the 80's or 90's along with the relay bracket. Now you have a neat place to put them and organize them without having to make something.

Even with the wires doing the same thing as they were intented to do i still need a relay? I didnt rewire anything just seperated from one (factory switch) to two switches. I have two relays on my HIDs already. Ok now for part 2. The ignition, i have 2 12v constant(RED), purple (goes to starter), pink-orange w/small brown wire- dark brown(12v turn key to igniton). And the brown wire is 12v in ACC position. tan/white stripe (3v)Not sure what its for. Now when i would disconnect one red wire everything would work except ACC, didnt matter which red one it was. So if i were to get an OFF-ON-ON switch that was 4 prong, first on ACC,second on ign., then a momentary for the start would i still need to have both 12v together or could i seperate them?

Looks like you have a good start but.....

I have used this panel from ARC and it is awesome.

I just got the dash mount unit for my GP,it is almost a perfect fit for the radio slot.

Has some neat features, dip switch to make switch stready(on and off) or momentary contact(starter).

Also another set of dip switches that can make a master control.

They look pricey until you add all the relays, wires, switch etc and then it is not so bad.

It also looks good, the switches are touch sensative and glow red when off and green when on.

I will try and post a pic of mine in a bit.

Looks like a cool deal. I hate to go back with all the time i have involved now and take the easy route, lol. I have it all figured out except turning on the ignition. I guess all i need to know is if i use a 40 or 50 amp switch to turn on the ignition do i still need a relay? Also how would i wire the relay to power each wire at the same time? Thanks

I like the look better in the radio slot but function wise, easier to reach,it may end up in the a/c control area.

Oh,it comes with neat stickers, white or black that go in the little slot in the center.

Thats what i loved about my Grand Prix was the gauges fit perfect in the stock locations. I really wish i could figure out how to wire up my ignition so then i could start making my dash. Other than that all i have to do is get the turn signals wired up with the brake light cancellation relays. Oh and i need a new steering column cause i broke three bolts trying to use the steering wheel puller so my steering wheel aparently isnt coming off.
