Thanks for the update. When we've scraped some more facts together we'll get HR to post a correction....

Ol' Steve got it wrong on that special front spoiler making it sound like it's a M80 item but the Elky SS's used it. Then the car in the Hemmings story does have one thing wrong with it, it has a '81 up dash pad instead of the correct '78-'80 pad.

Reputedly a GM engineer did a restoration. When I checked the dealer in the 1990s, you could still buy a new dash for $600, but it was only the later 81-up style. Didn't get to choose the color by then though. Probably a dozen or fewer in inventory across the country at that point.

I had a friend up in NY years back that had one. It was white with blue stripes, 4-spd, bucket seat car. I never knew these cars existed until he drove up to my house and schooled me about these cars and how they originated.

With a name like that you would of hoped for something explosive under the hood. More of a dud. And whats with all the Shelby type stripes and color combo.

Pretty sure that "back in the day"prior to the 1980s, white with blue stripes was the USA color, like the British used British racing green, Italians with red, etc.
