Okay.... So I've bought myself a 1983 Malibu Wagon today for 1,200. 88,000 miles, Garage Kept. BUT, The only thing is, the rear driver's side door vent window is busted out, but I've got a new one to match it. I don't know how to change it. Could anybody please help and tell me to get this off? Supposed to get a little rain tonight, and it's gotta sit outside.

I'd hate to have to do this the first time in the dark and with a deadline. IMO, put some plastic over it and do this later.

Take the interior panel off the door. Then remove the the big plate window. IIRC, it sits on a plate held on by a couple screws, easy to do. At least on my 81, the vent window is held in by one screw coming down through the top of the door, and one in the bottom that is a bit difficult to see and get to. Use your spare window as a guide and remove both.

Then you have to pull/tilt the top of the window forward (into the area where the big window would be) to get it out. The rubber/felt seal will need to be pulled out of the way first to do that, and because it's 30 years old and probably hard and brittle, you have a good chance of destroying it trying to get it out.

Install and reassembly is pretty easy.

Good luck!

azmalibuwagon just about covered it.
The vent window is held in with 4 screws.
One along the top, and two along the backside of the window frame.
The lower one is buried behind the rubber window channel. Once it is pulled out a ways it's easy to see.
Before you install the window, hit the upper and lower pivot points with some white lithium grease to help it move smoothly.

I'm only seeing, like a little post that goes up into the window that acts as a stabilizer, and the on the bottom I see only one screw where it goes in - but, when I take the top panel off, I only see what looks like a spacer, and I imagine some kind of a screw goes through there. Does it screw from the bottom or the top??

The bottom screw comes in from the side. Let's see if I can upload a picture. Maybe this will help.

Also, apparently there are different numbers of screws in these windows - This is a spare one I have in the garage, and in addition to this bottom screw, it has 4 screws on the top and side - 1on top and 3 down the back of the window frame. My Malibu only has the top one.

Okay, well I found out by look at my spare window, it's not gonna work, due to the bottom of the window not having the screw hole. It's broken off. So, it's not gonna work. Good news, the Malibu survived the 1 inch of rain we got last night - I sealed that window up pretty good. :D

Oh yeah, here's some pictures of my Malibu. If you look close enough in the first picture, you can see the busted out window. :/

And does anybody know where I could possibly get a 78-81 header panel for my Malibu?

Good lookin' Malibu.
I guess you want to go with the early single headlight look. I met a guy today in fact that might have an earlier header panel.
I think he said an '80 or '81. I can find out for you.
I'm actually going to install an '81 header panel on my car.
Where are you located?

I'm located in Cincinnati, OH. And yes, I love the early style header panel... it looks so much better than the quad head lighted one, in my opinion. If you need to, email me. [email protected].
