Re: Manual Trans

keep in mind a lot of the aftermarket shifters may require a bit of clearance work if you put the hump in. if you go 5 speed it is useless.

www.thepartsplaceinc.com part # MT6672Z for the metal floor hump

http://www.ss396.com/category/gm-gmalibushifter.html for the shift boot, trim ring and carpet trim piece

what trans are you running? if you are running a muncie i can give you the part # of the hurst shifter i ran but you have to cut and weld the hump in about 5" further back than the saginaw

Re: Manual Trans

I used a spade bare block and bolted bell and trans to it. Bolted on the shifter minus the handle. Got it in place without the crossmeber. Shoved up hard on the tail shaft and put a witness mark on the tunnel. Let the tail shaft down went inside drilled a 1/2" hole the cut it out larger with an air saw. Then put crossmember in and shifter through hole. Next place hump over shifter. Position slightly yo passenger side to all in got engine torque. Make sure where you put it uou have full shifter movement ( 2 people help here). Trace out where the hump is. The cut the hole little smaller than the area you traced. I then drilled holes in hump and plug/spot welded it. Follow up with seam sealer

Re: Manual Trans

Just a general idea but my shifter is back about 5" further than yours will be

Note the air saw works better than a jig saw

Re: Manual Trans

Finished result. Note: you have to cut the carpet back almost to the flat flange where I spot welded it to get the trim to fit. Just take it a little at a time.

BTW what's your power plant and intentions? Any reason to stick with the saginaw?
