I have an '84 white, red interior. base el camino. we have a healthy 400 small block, th400r4, 3.83 posi, sway bar frnt and rear.
so I smoked the old tires off now I want to replace the rears.
outside the car is BONE stock. I like the sleeper, it's even quiet, 'till I hit it.
I want to use the original wheels. I like the fat 14" balloon tire. The car rides like a Caddy. don't want to do "rubber bands" I'm looking to folks for Ideas.
I have 205/70R1495s tires now. Rotted

I don't know what your original wheels look like but if you got 15" wheels or maybe some 15" rears that match the fronts it would really open up your options for tire sizes and if you ever want a drag radial they typically start at 15" and get bigger from there

If keeping the 14" wheels a 215/70R14 would be close to the stock 26" tall tire. 225/70R14 is about an half inch taller, 245/60R14 about a half inch shorter but may be a little wider than recommended for the stock 14x6 wheels.

OK, yea i've got some 15"s on mags on the nova, but that is a different build. that's a kick butt road racer, you know up down around a 45 and up again.
the elky just rides so smooth, I just don't need much, just a little more rubber on the road.
thanks for the help. You brought up the 245 on a 6 ' wheel. I have 6.5" wide wheels. so I guess I better look into that. thanks

Are you measuring like this? Where the tire bead sits on the inside.
