looking for minimum altrnator output required for a very bare-bones SBC.

My engine only has headlights, marker lights, interior lights and distributor. No heater motor or anything.

Power windows, but that's it, and I think that can run off the battery. I'm looking for an alternator that is as physically as small as possible, and it going to put out whatever you guys think is what I'd need to run. Right now I have a 100 volt alt, bone stock. I'm looking to get a new, smaller alt to save some weight up front and reduce the spinny mass that the engine has to turn.

also lookin for recomendations for alt mounting. I'm looking to mount it a bit lower that the stock mount, and its a LWP btw.

we have a small alternator on the race car to save weight that puts out 64 amps but it was $300

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Is that a short water pump? I really like the way that is laid out. That secondary pulley on the snout of the water pump looks AWESOME. I'm keeping this pic for future reference.
What brand is that? And what kind of mountingsystem for the Alt?

You want to have more than the bare min lack of amps will hurt et more than weight and driving a larger alt.

That is a short water pump..the secondary pulley slows the alternator down, the crank pulley slows the water pump and power steering down....the engine usually revs between 7 and 8 during a race and can rev as high as 9. It's all from Jones Racing Products..

What do you think is a good amount of amps for a car with just a dizzy and lights? And yes, I have a battery.

that 65 amp alt we have in the race car powers the distributor, msd box, cooling fan, differential cooling fan, driver cooling fan, tach and gauges (oil pressure, water temp, oil temp)...it puts out 65 amps at 3000 rpm. (that's not the engine rpm, that's the alt rpm)

What is your current set up of the car? purpose or goal of the car? budget?

I am running a full size powermaster 140amp alt. yes its heavy but the amount of amps that it will put out is more then enough to run my electric water pump, fuel pump, dual fans, msd digital 6, gauges etc.

There is other weight you can strip before you start spending money on something that isnt neccessary yet.

and if you are worried about weight in the front of the car there is a system that uses the yoke in the rear end to drive an alternator
