Looks like the previous owner removed the EGR valve. Guessing when he put in the Rochester with the electric choke. I was replacing PCV, etc when I noticed it wasn’t there. Unless I can’t find it. It’s a ‘78 with the 231. It’s been running without one. Does hesitate a little when starting out at a stop. If I push down too hard on the accelerator from stop, it stalls. Any thoughts? And would it be on the driver side intake manifold? Thanks

I would think it should run fine without the EGR. Is the engine in tune? Timing in spec? Carburetor setup properly? Any of those out of whack could cause the issues you listed.

Thanks. Everything seems to be in order. Haven’t had it out much in the past 6 months as I was doing all the brakes and lines. Was just concerned about no EGR

Accelerator pump is likely not working. The EGR has a direct line to the exhaust. You would know if it was just plain removed. It could have a non egr intake or a block off plate.

Was hoping not that. Much easier to replace on a Carter carb.
