missing shifter parts

I got a cutlass floor shifter,,it looks like it has a spring missing,,looking at the shifter ,,it has what looks like a J hook which contacts the detents on the guide
but nothing under it so it doesnt stay up in the guide and the thing doesnt stay locked,,any idea what is missing or if you have the part i am missing???

There is a small spring that loops under j hook and lift it up. I made one out of a thin throttle return spring on mine. I might have one on a spare shifter got to check.

ok great,,i have looked high and low and posted want ads on multiple forums,,,no luck,,if you have one ,,i need it ,,,thanks

Woody,
Is your shifter a GM factory shifter? Do you know if all the GM shifters use the same parts? I have a floor shifter from I believe one of the 1978 Grand Am's I parted out (no shift knob on it but, the detent spring is there and the detents seem to work). I can box the entire shifter up and mail it to you if you'd like! You can PM me your address if you're interested.
