A guy in my town that i have been helping get his 79 monte going decided he doesnt want these braces on his car that go from the firewall to core support. My 84 cutlass has the angle bars that run from the fenders to the core support. Would there be an advantage to swapping in the long bars or just adding them if the will fit with the angle bars

I'd put both on. I think these were removed by the bean counters at GM. I also made copies of the original braces out of 1/2" EMT conduit. This helped out the stiffness of the front end.

Anything that helps tighten things up is good. Not sure if there would benefit of using one set-up vs the other though. Never seen any specific testing of each discussed. Combining both might be possible if they don't interfere w/one another.

My existing braces are these spindly little things. Is this what you replaced with 1/2 conduit

I also recently made my fender to core support braces for my Regal out of 1/2" EMT, I made a crimper years ago so I could put a nice finished end on them that I also use when making jounce and GP bars out of rigid 3/4" pipe.

Would love to see details of the crimping tool. Do you use a vice with the tool?

I made it for my press, it crimps both sides simultaneously. I feel this design adds strength to the end over the factory style.

yes, these work in tension, but not in compression. I just duplicated them in 1/2" conduit. You can see them in this picture.

Looks great. I hope i can make mine look so good. Did you have to switch the overflow tank. My buddys overflow tank has notches molded in for clearance for the bars. Mine doesnt.

Thanks! No, the overflow tank is notched for the braces. I did have to bolt them on the bottom of the front header panel, instead of top, but that wasn't any big dea.
