how do u hook up the shifter to the floor and make it functional ?

At the moment nothing is functional its all for looks as of now. What i plan to do is weld the shifter to the trans hump, theres already a hole in the tunnel to run a kickdown cable from the floor shifter to the trans. its going to be simple doing that part but what i dont understand is the column stuff.

My question is can a column shift setup be deleted so i can use it as a floor shift setup only while still using the current column shift column??? <----- if this can be done thats what i'll do and just remove the shifter lever from my column again.

if not what do i need to do????
i could replace the complete column i guess because i have a real floor shift column in my stash of parts but i wanted to save it for my cutlass.

The previous owner took the b&m floor shifter out of this car...it had 1 before and i would assume it was hooked up and functional.

gbody fam can i get some help. i see people coming in here but no comments. from my understanding the linkage needs to stay hooked up under the hood for backup light switch, neutral safety switch ECT to function. so whats next.....hooking up the kickdown cable to the trans pan...is thss all thats needed to complete this or am i missing something?

just take the column shifter handle off and leave the linkage to the transmission hooked up... ut set u might have to buy a bracket to hook the floor shifter cable to the trans.. but other than that ur set!! IF IM WRONG SOMEONE CORRECT ME

yeah you couldnt have said that better but it sure is a lot of work. The runt is gonna be a hard after you finish that baby.

Kuruption109 hit the nail on the head.
Just remove your column shift lever (knock the pin out and it slides right out) and hook the floor shifter cable to the trans.
Not sure how the stock Monte floor shifters mount, but since your car didn't have one from the factory, it may take a little creativity to get it to sit in the correct spot.

That hole in the floor is huge.
Once you have your stuff hooked up, cover up rest of that hole.
Hammer those edges down so it's even and you can pop-rivet a small piece of tin over the unused portion. I recommend putting something like strip-caulk or a bit of anykind of sealer between the floor and patch. Even some aluminum body tape over the hole would be better than nothing. Then shoot a little undercoating on the backside to cover up/protect it.
Some sort of protection around the edge of the metal is always a good idea too.
An easy fix is to cut open a small piece of rubber fuel line or even vacuum line and slide it over the edge to keep it from chewing up the shifter cable.

thanks blake ill get all the stuff done soon. im def going to treat the metal around the hole to prevent rust from starting or things getting into the car. i also have a welder so i can tackle that hole the proper way and these console brackets for mounting it, thanks for your help man.
