New to the forum, but I've already read a lot of great info. Bought an 85 Base (v8) that loses all power after running ac for a little while. Does this both at an idle and while driving. Replaced fuel filter and blower motor so far, only had the car a couple weeks. Compressor is good. Clutch and belt are both good. Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Possible idle solidniod on the carb. It should kick the idle up with the A/C on. Its on the drivers side front of the carb.

Some Montes have a Power Steering Pressure Switch.

Does yours have one?

Does it run for an extended period of time without the AC? Idle, moderate speeds and highway speeds?
If it does I lean toward a running hot condition.
I really need more info on what it is exactly doing

Thanks for the replies guys. It's my first project, but before I can do anything I want to get it running right. Without AC car runs fine. Idle, moderate, and highway speeds are all good. Running hot would make sense to me except for the fact that it loses all power upon stalling. It stalls in any gear, at any time, rolling or not. AC only has to be engaged for a couple of minutes. After 30 seconds or so, starts right back up and off we go. Any ideas?

Still need more specifics. With the AC on, if it dies on you when it engine returns to idle, like pulling up to a stop light, or sitting in your driveway, then the AC idle boost solenoid is suspect or is just completely out of adjustment. If you are running down the road at like 3000rpm, turn the AC on, and the engine dies, you likely have a MAJOR electrical problem that could or should be popping fuses. Since you changed the blower motor, I would suspect that something went wrong there.

I'd been looking for an idle air control valve as I've read a lot about them. Seeing that it could be called different things though.

Thanks for the response. Been having these issues since I bought the car, only changed the blower motor 3 days ago.
