Hi, so I have a project that I'm working on. I have a 1984 oldsmobile cutlass calais that I am redoing interior motor paint and 1/4 top on. As for now I have a few questions about my motor swap. So it has a 1984 307 with a computer, and I'm going to a 1971 350 rocket and I'm not sure what I will need to do about all the computer. As I'm sure if I don't connect the harness they will throw the computer for a loop. Thank you and I'm glad I found this site and I would be happy ti answer any questions that I might be able to help with.

I did a similar swap on an 86 some 20 years ago now. Labeled the starter, ignition, alternator and sensor wires, and reconnected those to the “new” motor. Tucked the rest inside the fender and it all worked fine.

What carb and distributor are you using?

So is your plan to use the computer with the new engine?

Wow. Thanks for the fast responses. I was planning on using the non electric 1971 model intake and carb. And I wasn't sure if I needed to get rid of computer or if I can still use without having all kind of problems

I did a similar swap on my 86 El Camino many years ago. Transferred everything from the 305 to a 75 vintage 350 including the computer controlled carb (Q-Jet). Only issue I had was having to run a stock SS Monte Carlo PROM in the computer after installing full length headers. With the headers the carb seemed to have a "Flat spot" I could not adjust out. Tried the PROM swap and never had an issue in the 150,000 miles I ran that engine. Keeping the computer control allowed the transmission to have the lock up feature on the converter without any added wiring.

The stock 71 350 is 8 to 1 and a tiny cam. Stock will only be a slight upgrade. Good part is you can use the 307's carb and distributor. You may have remove the air pump, lines and cap at the cat. If you can put dual exhaust on the car, do it.

What trans? It should work fine with the stock ECM. With stock pistons, don't go any larger than a 204/214 cam. Also don't change the head gaskets if they are the thinner steel shim head gaskets.
