Sorry for your loss.

Welcome to the site. Very nice Malibu you have acquired. Check the 5th letter in the VIN.
'K' is the 229 Chevrolet Engine
'A' is the 231 Buick engine.

Being a 49 state car you should have the 229 V6 which will give all the front brackets & accessories to the 350. The trans will bolt right to (will it live behind will depend of which one it is.) If the new 350 has a two piece rear main seal the flexplate will work too. All the 229 is a pathetic V6 version of the 305-same bore/stroke.

Thats what I have been told, my mechanic said the motor has always been trash haha. Which is why he recommended a swap

Welcome from NE GA , sorry for your loss . That malibu looks to be in pretty good shape , THE SBC is the way to go , no other engine on the planet can be upgraded as cost efficient . Its dependability , reliability , and power potential are legendary for a reason ! Ask any parts vendor and they will tell you the SBC out sells every other engine 3 to 1 COMBINED ! . Good luck with it , lots of great info here .
