To be young and stupid - and to think someone got in the car with him. Odds are on the side of that video being tragic than the way it turned out.

Yeah it could have turned out really bad. I was thinking how easy it would have been for the car to get sideways when it landed and smack into those trees on either side of the road. At least they had enough sense to check for oncoming traffic and tell the driver it was clear. If you're gonna try stupid stunts, at least have the decency to not put other people at risk unless they also want to be involved.

Having said that, it was a pretty cool jump and I was pretty impressed at how well the car landed and stayed in control.

I can't believe how high the front stayed; it looked like a 737 with no landing gear (and sounded like one, too!).

Yeah, the front end did stay really high. I wonder what the weight distribution is on those cars?

I'm a big Dukes of Hazzard fan and I've done a little reading on their stunts. The Chargers used for the jumps had to have ballasts put in the trunk to help keep the back end down and if you watch very much of the show you'll still see a lot of jumps where the car nose dives. That LeSabre flew the exact opposite.

I was thinking the same every jump i've done landed like a shovel with the results being the car usually bent in half or something got stuffed back all ways quite violant. Like I said we weren't smart kids we thought extreme parking was a sport

Other thing is the base engine in those was the Buick 4.1.... now most were optioned as 307s being "luxury cars" but that would save a little weight in the front/rear distribution... back when they were plentiful in the yards wed search them and rivieras to rob for the rolled fillet cranks and 2 dot rods for gn motors....
