After having eye surgery last year,I wear safety glasses with side shields no matter what I'm doing.

the good lord gave you two of them for a reason, lol.

been there many times, twice for the dremel, very cool. once where the metal shard bounced off of my forehead, off the safety glasses and into the eye. i could actually feel that one every time i blinked.

had a co-worker who was deaf in one ear from welding slag, oh that has to sting.

best one i did was to get sprayed in the eyes, yes my glasses were on, with a load of a/c flushing compound. the ER didn't know what to do, so they flushed out my eyes by placing two suction cup type devices on to my eye balls and attached to cups were clear tubing that went to bags of saline solution. i went thru 4 bags. it was a hot and humid night and i was sweating like a pig when i went in, two hours later i was shivering from the cold saline running across my eyes.

I feel a little sick after reading these posts. I've done stupid things and have been lucky so far. Thanks for the painful reminders - I know where my safety glasses are hanging - I have no excuses if something were to happen.. Reading glasses are not eye protection.

Haven't got a direct hit in the eye from speeding metal since age 12, but indirect stuff can be just as bad. even wearing glasses or goggles, stuff can get In your eyebrows, top of goggles, etc & fall in later.

The main thing to avoid when getting trash in your eyes is not to rub them at all & grind it in. This is easier said than done, particularly when sleeping.

I guess I've been pretty lucky so far, I've only had crap get in my eye 3 times and never had to go to the hospital. The dumb thing is all 3 times the piece of crap bounced off my cheek, then off the safety glasses and into my eye...
