Swapping out the manifold on my mc 305, fairly stock, no smog, no vacuum lines....what is a good manifold/carb combo? Pic for reference

Well, you should have some vacuum lines. Brakes, Modulator for trans (if equipped), etc. Heat/AC controls as well.

This seems like a good intake for the money. A 600cfm AVS Edelbrock (AVS 2 has neato annular boosters now) or a 600cfm vac. sec. holley will work wonders. Or a qjet, if you get a spreadbore/dual pattern manifold.

You might want to post an introduction telling us a little about what you're working on. etc.
...and a few pics of your ride is always welcome.
Otherwise, welcome aboard.

Hello Longroof79, I am Mike geepers. I am new to gbody forum, and joined recently to get to know my car better. I have a 1978 Monte Carlo I cruise, and been a fan of gbody style cars for awhile. Here go a few pics of my car, and engine related to topic.

Welcome from Western New York and a fellow 3rd gen owner.
If you do not have your heart set on a Edelbrock intake and carb, a stock 305 will respond real well to a factory aluminum intake and early non electronic Q Jet.
<My blue 79 Monte Carlo has the 267 small block (For now) with the aluminum intake from my 86 El Camino's 305 and a 76 vintage Q Jet. This combo was used for years on a 400 small block, and two 383 stroker engines. I had tried a Edelbrock 2101 Performer intake but felt no difference on the 400 compared to the factory offering.
Hope this helps!
Sweet looking 78!!!(y)

When I built the 305 on my first monte. I used a 2601 performer air gap. I wanted to keep my qjet for the time being.
it worked great!

My vote is for a built quadrajet and an Edelbrock 2101 intake. They can both be used on a larger engine later if you want. I had Sean Murphy induction rebuild my quadrajet. Wow, what a difference!

Ok so I decided to go all edelbrock on top, ordered the manifold kit, and have a manual choke 600 to go on top. What will I need to modify to make carb configure to old hookups? Ie., vacuum, brake boost, linkage...am I overthinking this? Just want to be prepared for install and ready to get my car back on the road.
