Pick up what I think is a 8.5 rear axle today. The problem is the axle code [ACC] look at pics. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah that's not a GN axle code. No idea what it's out of.

Looks to be a 8.5 following the guide below.

rears.jpg

The lower control arm mount brackets look 73-77 A-Body. AC would be 2.73 ratio C would be built at Chevrolet Delevan (Buffalo NY) (6) month -June, (05) day (7) year 1977 (2) Second Shift
Below is the link to the Codes for the 73-77's.

No listing in my Hollander book for an ACC code, but AC comes up as 2.73 open 8.5 1973 to 77 a body. First the shock mounts are in front of the axle someone did a rig job to put them on the rear, and it has bolt in wheel cylinders which no g body had and I believe the code is actually AC and the second C denotes Chevrolet.

Just be warned that it is not a direct bolt in for a g body. It will be wider than a g car rear and the control arms are angled differently. That said good luck with the project.

I remembered I have a gm parts manual for 1976, the year of the rear-end in question. Checked it out and the AC stands for 2.72 gears
The next C stands for plant it was manufactured in. The next numbers are the day of that year 001 and so on. Tha KS for the replys
