I'm building a 4x4 1986 Cutlass supreme that will have a 1989 Chevy 4.3 tbi and am wondering what all it takes to wire the engine harness into the Cutlass factory cab wiring ( engine harness and CPU to the factory cab harness of Cutlass). I'm drawing blanks for some reason and Don't know where to start... I'm new to having fuel injection on my projects and just need as much info as I can get on swapping from 3.8 olds to 4.3 Chevy using factory or near stock wiring for the project. Thanks

I would figure out what wires go to your starter and motor grounds, wire those in so you can crank over the engine with the key. Then connect everything from the TBI computer to the motor itself. This should give you some wires that will go from the computer to the car itself. If you have already labeled where these wires go then you can match them up with the equivalent wires in your car harness. If not, you will have to get a manual and match up the computer wires to where they go.

One other thing, do you know if the donor truck had dummy lights or gauges on the dash? You will probably want to salvage your water temperature and oil pressure sensors from the old 3.8 engine if the donor truck and car doesn't match. If they do, you should be able to tee into the sensors that are already on the motor.

To start with the ignition is the same colours except the 8th black wire which just goes to ground. Just connector is different between the large in cap and small remote HEI. It really won't be that hard to graft in.

Most of the wire colors will match up. It's best to get schematics for each to verify function. Good luck.

BTW,...... Why? You obviously ain't running mud bogs with a 4.3.

Thanks for the replies to my thread.. I was completely overthinking this part of my project.

I am using an 89 blazer 4x4 with completely after market suspension with torsion bars and liftkit.... It's a 4.3 but have a beefed up transmission and transfer case that came with donor truck. i am using 4.3 that was included with the blazer because it was running great and has some goodies on it too. It was completely rusted out was reason I got rid of the body from blazer . Maybe not gonna have boggers but will have bigger rims with at least 35x12.5 tires on the beast.
