I cannot find my old passenger/driver locks. I have new locks. I don't know what it's called but its the piece of metal that attaches to lock and rod inside door. Don't know if pass/drv side are different. Anyone have these?

Tony, it’s called a lock “pawl” and should look like this:

That pic was borrowed from eBay, so if you’re not able to find one from a member here, they’re available new and used online.

I've got some rusty parts doors here. It'll still be raining in the morning but should be nice in the afternoon. I'll take a look for you then when it dries up out there.

Trying to remember...your car is an 84, right?

Briggs and stratton says the pawls changed for 1985, but as to how, I don't know. Parts book 20627874 shows as a listing for 82-84 G (2 needed), but it also lists 82-83 G-47 which uses a RH and LH, p/n 20188198 and 20188199 respectively. To which, the 1984 B&S lock catalog shows p/n 20188198 and 20188199 for the 84 Cutlass pawls as well. (320986 and 320987 B&S numbers)

85 changed to 20548660 for RH and 20548661 for LH.

Well, mine would be on 1986 regal doors. So.... being as how you don't have something to compare to, can't say how or if they'd work out for you.

Would you rather try new or wait and maybe someone has an 84ish set around?

Did you get long or short locks?
Lock GM Long and Short.jpg

Highlighted pawls are for the long locks, these will not fit the short locks.

Why would they make this so complicated???? Could've easily used the same ones standard across the lineup
Hahaha! Confusion creates the chaos!

I have NO earthly idea who started all this baloney. All I can say is be careful and take pictures of sh*t you take out of your door. Apparently GM decided they were going to change stuff up often for door lock parts. And then the fuggin' things don't work well after a while anyway. You would think the changes would make them better...but NOOOoooooo.
