Hey guys. Picked up a new to me motor.

Looking to get my car more streetable.

The motor is super clean, low miles, and ran perfect. It's a ZZ4, aluminum heads, with a XFI cam swap, 1.6 full rollers.

I was doing my cursory tear down to do a deeper inspection. Since the car/motor sat for years.

I need you opinions on what I found. Looks weepy to me

After I wiped it

I think I'm going to throw head gaskets at it and send it. Just want your opinions.

It could have dribbled down from the intake gasket just above it. But since it's already that far apart, I'd be doing a full reseal if it were mine.

With the different expansion rate of the aluminum heads & iron block it might just be a a good preventative measure to make sure the gaskets don't give out on you after you get it back in service.

For 30 buxx worth of felpro blues and a 10 dollar can of spray copper peace of mind is worth 40 buxx!!!

I would also do a pan gasket and new timing chain set while its out of the car, maybe an oil pump too

Thats just me, but like I said ...Peace of mind

And if you do the oil pump make sure to replace the shaft with one with a steel sleeve if there isn't already one there.

It's like you guys can hear my own voice inside my head.

I'll pull the oil pan tomorrow and see what I find.

It also has the composite timing cover. What are your thoughts on those?

Absolutely no leaks from the bottom of the motor btw....

The composite timing covers are technically a one time use part but I know guys reseal and reuse them. They were a Vortec era thing.

Good to know. The previous owner definitely re-used the cover, when the cam was swapped.

I'll see what I can dig up to replace it.

No real updates, I spent the day hanginf with the kids. I did confirm that the head gasket is weeping in that corner.
