A newer, bigger, better Chevy SB would be the easiest and most cost effective.

Is it a Canadian car? It should be a factory Olds 307 swirl port motor. Was the TH200C still available in 87 as an option? That looked just like my 88 except mine had a white top. I say an Olds 350 with a 4" stroke, mildly modified TH2004R and a 3.73 Detroit Trutrac.
