Just wanted to drop in and say hi. I got a new project going. I'm working on my buddy's 85 Monte Carlo SS. He has had the car for about 10 years and it was in and out of 3 different shops and never got put together right and now it has sat out in the weather for the past 4 years or so and is in not very good shape. The car has what he was told is a 454 small oval port crate engine and it has a 3 speed turbo 400. I've owned a TBSS and a B body Impala SS in the past but for a while I have been building Gen 3 Hemi cars. I currently own and built a 2007 300c SRT8, fbo, D1 Procharger, full suspension build, etc. It makes 641rwhp/571rwtq and runs mid 10's at full weight of a whale lol. This is my first foray into old GM stuff and I'm going to need some help for sure. Here's some pics of the new car and a couple of my 300

Welcome , thats a BBC you have there , not a SBC .
I do know it's a big block. He was told it's a small oval port?? If that is even correct. I know nothing about these engines and haven't even been able to find any identifying numbers on the block. First thing I need is an oil dipstick and a filter so i can change the oil, hook the battery back up and see if it will fire up

The casting numbers are in the same place as SBC , driver side between back of head and firewall. [ Not on the head itself , but the small area that the bell housing bolts to ]

Thanks man. I gotta get my mirror out tomorrow and look. It's hard to see back there with that big 454
