Hello
Just purchased a nice clean 1985 monte carlo ss. Has some small issues but I will deal with those. First issue the driver side seat belt is pulled all the way out and does not retract. I pulled the piece from the doorjamb as the thing does have a busted off snout. I know that needs replaced. The belt still stuck all the way out. I need to get inside. First after the rear seat is removed how do the side panels come off( dont want to break nothing) Then what does anyone think is needed inside

Greetings & welcome Bob d; It sounds like you need a new seat belt retractor & you have taken it out from the jam already. Possible that you have more trouble in the rear Q panel? The belt spool itself? So pull the rear seat, bottom cushion first. Reach to the rear of the lower cushion, under the back rest cushion & pull it froward, it should pop out of it's bracket. Two screws for the back rest cushion & with it out you should see some screws for the interior Q trim. Ole' Bob.

Hello and thanks for the help. Yes I removed the broken retractor that has the piece broke off that touches the door. Belt still in the exact same position. Pulled out all the way and thats it. Will not move in or out any further. Will tear things apart and see what seems to be the issue. Found a couple used retractor units on ebay.

There is a lever on the seat belt retractor, wiggle it around with a screwdriver, pull and release the belt see if the belt will roll back up
