Hi my name is Colby, I’m not really new to owning a GBODY. Just new to the forum as a member.
I’m 28, I own a 1979 Monte Carlo. Light blue metallic with medium light blue interior. The car had a original boat anchor (267) with a th350, now with a larger boat anchor 305 (had to get what I could afford in high school). I’ve owned the car since I was a sophomore in high school. Graduated in 2011 and drove it to college back and fourth. The car has been in my family since new (actually a demo model). The Monte Carlo was built in Arlington Texas, not to far from where I live. I am in the process of rebuilding the car to original with modern upgrades. Mostly trying to keep it stock. I have installed factory power windows and door locks to a bare basic car. As well as gauges. Next... power mirrors to remove the manual windows that wear out after closing the door a few times. In the process of installing the power mirror motors so to my factory original sport mirrors. I have taken this car apart in my sleep, I have rebuilt the quadrajet on my own, swapped a motor in high school (planning on a 383 stroker someday). Repaired the wiring harness, that a family friend chopped up before I took ownership. I have been keeping track of the repairs and list of items done. Plus I have been doing all work myself because a repair shop told me, “the repairs would cost more than the car is worth.” After only trying to get a quote for a floor pan. Way to lose money and customers that way....

It’s a little rough, the Texas sun kills everything. It was way worse when I got it. I have just the body work and interior. All the expensive stuff is last.

Tukwila, Wa.
TexasMonte, welcome to GBF from Seattle, Wa. '78 Caballero and '79 El Camino.
Nice when you have a car that has been in the family since new. Keep plugging away and you are sure to get to the goal line on the restoration.
I see what looks like the sport bullet mirrors. Are those the ones that you are converting to power mirrors? Electric? If so, what electric motors have you found that work in that mirror bucket? My '79 has the sport bullet mirrors, but on my '78, I want to put the 86-up Monte wedge mirrors with electric motors (optional on Camaro, Firebird, and also available on Fiero, and Corvette)

Yes those are the ones. I actual bought a bunch of g body parts off a guy we knew. In his stash I bought he had 09 challenger mirrors. My original Idea was to fit them in until it looked more like mirrors instead of a car. I took them apart and the motor mechanism fit inside the mirror. I am working on a base to mount them. Either by the original screws like the original mirror on the Monte Carlo and base plate from the donner mirror itself. I will probably use silicone to mount the Monte Carlo mirror back to the motor mechanism.
