Just picked up a one owner 1978 El Camino SS thats been sitting in field for 20 years. It is a mouse infested disaster, but its all there. Someone at some point had ditched the 305 and replaced it with a 68-72 307.... odd choice. I'll post some pictures later. My plan is to stuff a built 383 I have on the bench into it and hopefully give it to my daughter as a first car. This is my first G Body, have always been into A bodies instead, just couldn't pass this one up, as it was free. I'm glad this forum is here and I am learning a lot.

Yep, and if you're used to older A-bodies, Gs are pretty much the same construction with a metric twist. 82-92 and 99-02 S-10, 84-93 F-body parts fit in certain locations. They're like GM Lego sets.

Welcome. I’ve got a 383 in my 79 Elco. Isn’t that to much power for someone’s first car?
