Hello everyone. The 83 calais has been disassembled and the restoration project has begun. I have all kinds of ideas that I am considering for this car but alot of it has to do with what parts I have, what parts I need, and what parts are available at the moment. I am putting a smallblock in the car and I think I want to eliminate the AC. I found a heater assembly close to me and the seller does not have the controls for it. Does anyone know what all parts should be there for the swap. He has the firewall box with the motor, the ducts, and the piece that goes under the steering column with cables. Is there anything specific to this swap that I will also

The duct work is unique to the heater only system. The dash control unit is available from OPGI for about $80, but you'll also need all the cables in order to connect it.

Sounds like everything is there...
Make sure you get the upper cowl screen, I didn't see that mentioned.
Your existing cowl-to-hood seal can be shortened and reused.
I think I have an extra control panel somewhere.
The swap is pretty straight forward, I've done it to both of my cars.
Pay attention to your cable routing to ensure smooth operation.

The glove box is also different from AC to non AC cars...I believe the non AC doesn't have a deep of pocket as the AC one.

I may have pictures of the cable routing from one I pulled apart last year.

I'm still curious about this. The previous owners of my car "deleted" the AC by cutting the lines off at the box and swapping the motor to a POS. The heat still works, which is good, the box is huge and ugly, which is bad. I came across this http://www.gbodyparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=1387 and wanted some input on it. Has anyone used this? Can I literally just take off the old box, move some things around and install the new cover? Would be easier than finding a donor non AC car and swapping everything, and cheaper.

Thank you for the reply though. Instructions before I get my hands dirty will make the job easier.

Me personally I think I'd swap to factory non AC parts....but that's me and I've had the better part of 2 complete systems here. If I was going to pay close to $200 for a box and then have to pull off and spend time cutting up parts I'd just swap in factory stuff. I have a few parts listed in the link below as I am parting out one of the non AC systems I had here..
