Hey everyone, Im looking to get a new set of headers for my sbc350 going into a 80 monte.
Now before you start flippin on another n00b for not doing his homework, dont worry. I did! I want 1-5/8 primary tube shorty headers for my application.

However my lack of experience with brands, adequate prices etc. has lead me to ask YOU to throw some good header brands too look at and compare, even post a direct link to the ones you use or recommend!😀

Thanks

What difference does a collector diameter make between 2.5 and 3.0 in? And which one s better?

Neither header collector will make a significant difference in and of itself, the difference will be noticed in the price of larger diameter tubing for exhaust from collector back if you go with 3 inch vs 2.5 inch, and if your not producing enough HP and torque needed for larger exhaust tubing..............youll actually lose backpressure needed by keeping your tube diameter in relation to the HP and torque your actual motor is producing.

I've found the long tube headers I want with the primary tube diameter i want (1 5/8) but I can't find any with a 2.5" collector diameter, only 3"..Would that be problematic to connect to a 2.5 diameter header-back system? Or would that not make any sense to do? Thanks.. this is getting really confusing

They make step down collector adapters, some will say its not the best way to do it but it will work fine. Your only talking 1/2" diff. that's only 1/4" a side that section that forms the collector on street type headers is pretty short anyway.

If your using 2.5" pipe for your system, a good exhaust shop will streach out the ends to 3" and weld them or clamp them to the collectors depending on what kind of collector your headers have. My pickup has 3" bolt on collectors, and 2.5" exhaust pipe with 12" glass packs that exit in front of the rear tires. They streached the end of the pipes and welded it on to the collectors, then bolted the collectors on. 12" glass packs makes it pretty loud(especially when the secondarys open), but you can still tell it has some sort of muffler on it.

So if i get a bigger collector it wont be an issue when its time to put an exhaust system in?
