I’m new but I have a 85 SS with a 406. I installed a new carburetor but my choke wire fell off laid on the intake and melted the wire. Before I could turn the ignition off the car cut off now I don’t get anything when I turn the key. Any ideas. It has a 6a MSD box and it doesn’t have power either.

there is a 20 amp fuse for that wire so the wire should not have melted before the fuse blew. If that fuse is blown it does not kill the power to start the car...

I was thinking heat. That the insulation melted from heat and THEN shorted. I am not sure that the wire shorted first and then melted.

the fusible link wasn't the problem, the wire looks like it was melted. I think you should check the routing of the wires to make sure they are not touching the exhaust.

It looks like more than fusible links with the burned wires after the crimp or they burned hotter than designed. Check out that whole ignition set up, the starter just because, the entire main power curcuit (curcuit 2, 12 GA red), and always the grounds that are part of the set up. Something realy crossed that circuit.
