Hey guys,
So I just encountered a bad experience with Softseal door weatherstripping. I noticed the originals had a plastic center at the ends of the strip inside the foam, the new ones obviously do not. The new ones have a washer built in that doesn't do a damn bit of good and they ripped from having to be stretched out a bit to line up with the screw holes. Is there another company that makes them "exactly" like oem with the plastic built in, if not then where can I buy some GM replacements that wont cost me over $500?

do you mean SoffSeal? If I were you I'd contact the company to ask them what they can offer to solve the issues you have with the seals.

*nobody* makes replacements with the correct plastic inserts. If you can find OEM stuff you're looking at $$$ if its even any good.

If I'm wrong somebody tell where to get them lol.

Pardon my language, but they don't give a damn.

I had an issue with some rear door weatherstrips on the wagon. No response via email, and when I finally got to a live person, they really had no interest in the problem, and told me I would have to go back to the seller to get it resolved. I explained that there was no issue with the seller, the part was incorrect for the application listed.

Long story short, Mike's Montes made good on the situation, despite them having no control over the issue.

Postscript to the whole thing is that they don't seal the doors worth a damn....I'll be replacing them with Metro. I used the Soffseal because I had bought roofrail strips for a coupe that worked well. Maybe they just don't give a damn about crewcabs and wagons?

I ended up going with Metro Supersoft but they don't have the plastic either but I did find if I scuff up the mounting surface of the seal and the corresponding area on the door and use 3M weatherstripping adhesive I end up with a very good bond even though you have to stretch the seal to fit correctly.

This is where I got with Steele. I told them to start making them correctly with the inserts and I could bring hundreds of customers willing to buy them. Anything without the inserts is just garbage!

And they called me crazy for stocking up on those "over-expensive" GM weather-strips back in the day….they weren't cheap when I bought 'em, relatively, but they fit and function like a dream.

NOBODY makes them aftermarket with the end plastic pieces or the squiggly wire reinforcement (where applicable). If they could, I'm sure the price would be adjusted up accordingly. Plus, the hardness of the aftermarket seals are much denser it seems and don't accommodate with enough crush in my opinion. Plus, it is my opinion (no proof) they simply try to get over by molding Cutlass ends on Monte Carlo door seals.

I've only had one experience with aftermarket seals years ago after repainting my 84 H/O. Tried soff seal door seals and they were nicely made, but a tad short. Even with adhesive and minor stretching, they still fit like crap. Then I had to slam the crap out of the door to get it to close. After about a week of that crap, went to GM seals and never looked back.
