Great information guys! I really do appreciate it. I hate the thought of putting hours into taking care of the frame with the body still on only to have 35 year old body mounts and areas that can't be completely cleaned/protected. I will definitely have to reassess the down time though. When I get it figured out for sure what way I want to go with it and get the logistics worked out, I'll be sure to follow up. Thanks again!

Is the car really going to see much bad weather? Mine won't. Mine's been in the shop for 5 years.

Easy peasy.removed frame blasted it and underside of body and had it sitting back under it in 2 days.valentine weekend.the key here is rust free platform people, when you THINK you are scoring a deal, evaluate right then and there how far you want to take your platform, and then inspect and inspect again.relatively easy to remove these bodies from frames and the rest is all ocd;)

I don't expect to see too much bad weather. I live out in the desert now so other than dust and sun, it's fairly safe. But the dream is to do it up as right as possible now and the next time the body has to come off for anything, I'll be dead and it'll be my kids' problem.

I'm also not sure I've ever been accused of being normal

If you want to be down for only a month you need to leave the body on. Get under there with some wire wheels and por-15 and it will look pretty good. If you’re pulling the body off, plan on years.

I've been considering this but have wondered if I would be able to reapply POR-15 to the entire frame should I arrive with a space large enough to pull the entire body off wait for it..... down the road

I took out all the bolts, then jacked up one side enough to repair the mounting holes and apply rustoleum. Then did the other side. Had to fix (3) cage nuts. Took a few winter months to accomplish. I could see where pulling the body could lead to a bigger project.
