I just installed headers on my 87 442 stock 307 and noticed the oil filter will be a challenge to replace without oil getting all over the header. Has anyone used an oil filter relocater? Trying to find best option

I cut a piece of contractor trash bag to use during oil changes- just hang it over the header, remove when done.

If you want to relocate, Oldsmobiles are cool because you have 2 holes behind the oil filter adapter. Tap those to NPT and you're done.

I have had a dual remote filter set up on my Monte for years and I have one waiting for my Regal for when the new engine goes in.
I always use braided AN lines and mount the dual filters on the core support and most remote mounts use a large 3/4-16 threaded filter and I use a 5.5" tall filters and I prefer not to deal with trying to get a smaller filter out from headers.

I just use heat wrap around the header next to the filter. Keeps heat off the filter too. If the header is so close to the filter that you can't unscrew it all the way, they make shorter filters. I'd recommend the shorter filters get changed more frequently if you go that route.

I have a license plate I custom bent that hangs over my headers and directs the oil in to my pan

I gonna install a relocation kit together with an aux engine oil cooler in my El Camino. Since the battery will get a new home in the smugglers compartment and the charcoal canister relocated I should have enough room to play with at the front of the engine bay.

The only downside to a remote filter set up is the initial cost and finding suitable routing for the lines.
The advantages are you can run a larger filter or a dual set up with 2 filters for extra capacity and cooling.
You can change your oil when it is hot without the worry of working around hot headers or dripping oil on them.
If the filters are mounted with easy accessibility you don't even need a filter wrench to loosen them.
You can top your filters off with oil before installing and not worry about spilling oil trying to work it up through header tubes.

I've made these in the past. I revised the part so it does not have the counter bores for the mounting holes.

This is a prototype for a rear exit remote oil filter adapter.

Down side is more crap to cause a catastrophic failure
