HV pumps aren't usually a good idea with a stock capacity pan. You run the risk of the pan going low or dry especially during spirited driving.

I'd set the bearings a little loose and go high volume. But that's just me. I don't know how hard you'll be revving it.

Everyone in the Olds world has different clearance ideas. Having a Halo and lighter KB pistons helps. Smitty got .002 rods and .0025 mains ground into the crank. I wouldn't go over .003" for clearance. The SBO doesn't have near as many bottom end issues as the 455, although my 403 had .010" rod bearings in it. The stock pistons are very heavy, KB's should be a few grams lighter. Most will say regular volume with a stock replacement pan.

I run a BB pump in my SBC which adds about 10% volume. If you want a little more volume you can add a thin washer to the spring.

Im asking about strictly Olds engines

I heard they suffer from slow drain back issues
