#8 exhaust lifter isn’t liking the boost game I guess. It’s stuck about .080-.100 down. These were the180k mile stock lifters. And the oil pump was original as well - the his thing never had 30 psi of oil pressure at idle. So I’m thinking an oil pump, lifters and trays. Then of course the head bolt question lol.

Made it to the track, for the truly 1st time with the car not having tons of trouble. But trouble lead up to track day. All I can say is 'down with Snake Eater Performance' - I'm onto 18 injectors from them and can't put 8 together that will run for more than 3-10 heat cycles. They lock up when they get hot and after that occurs 2-3 times, then they are locked up for good. Finally threw in the towel on them Wednesday night, with much disappointment. And my spare set of 60lber's just aren't enough - they were maxed ut at 17-18psi on the 4.8, and I'm sure they would've been sooner on the current 5.3. After moping for a day or so, I did doing some research, and it seems that Deka 80's will handle just about 900 crank hp on gasoline at 85 psi of fuel pressure. So I asked my son, Friday, if I could borrow his Deka 80's. Of course he obliged, so Friday night I pulled off the swap. Also tracked down 5 gallons of C16 Friday as well from one of the local speed shops - $13/gallon vs. $2/gallon for E85 - thank you SEP.

Drove the car for several hours Friday night, and Saturday to get a decent base tune in it. Headed to the track - 75 miles away - planning to be on fumes or darn close. Got to the track this morning and poured in the C16 and gave it some whacks. This was my 1st go 'round with the sloppy transbrake, and I have to admit that it showed. 1st 3 runs were almost useless between a couple of silly tuning snafu's on my end and dialing in the launch enough to be functional. I put in the ULTRA safe timing tune, and made a couple of fuel adjustments based on the 3 runs with terrible launches. But I was able to determine that the boost was still between 21-22 lbs on spring and the injectors seemed to be at 75% duty cycle (so a little wiggle room, but not much).

Launching at 4psi of boost and 3k rpm's, I was able to get two 60's in the 1.75-1.8 range. Not super, but OK - I can get it to 8 psi, so more to come next time for launching. I kept the timing to 8 degrees over 5000 rpm's to again, to be ULTRA safe. The best I could muster was 10.7 at 131. The AFR was 10.5 on the big end by design. So at the moment I think I can get the 60 to or 1.5 or1.6, maybe 1.4, and I can lean it out to 11.0 and add another 6-7 degrees up top with the C16 and still be at a DC of 85% or less. I see .8-1 second off, but time will tell.

I want to turn up the boost in the worst way, but I can't with these injectors - have I already complained about the SEP 142lber's (SMH)!!!

My China intercooler is borderline worthless lol. I'm getting upto 200 degrees on the intake temp. I guess I'll be adding a meth nozzle and pump soon. Probably some low budget gig that adds 10-20 gallons of washer fluid / hour. Wouldn't be a concern if I was on E, but it is on gas/race gas.

Lastly, if Drag Week hadn't of cancelled, my pocket book would be lighter because I'd a been on a set of FIC 's(Fuel Injector Clinic) or ID's by now for cough cough $1000-1200 cough. (Don't mention that to my wife :( ) All in the name of fun though :)

Didnt feel like getting spicy with the timing under 5k? Lol

Man thats some good results, if your that safe on timing and so rich you have some serious room to grow.

Man this thread has moved so fast I lost track of where i left off.

Bummer the injectors havn't worked out. It seems like there are so many hard opinions that they are great or terrible that I don't know who to believe. Does Sloppy have good luck because he doesn't drive the cars he tunes enough? I have read some of that Scott Clark fiasco and he craps on them along with a few other tuners but nobody I trust. I'm not sure what it is with SEP injectors. I don't know enough people personally that have run them to decide.

Have you thought about Bosch 210's?

For the 8.8 did you keep the ferd axles or go GM S10 30 splines? I had GM 30 splines in my 2+2 and shaddered one right after the splines with 1.75 60ft 125mph trap speed power, but on a t56. I got kinda lost on your rear end build.

I have a little room, but spicy wasn’t the goal yesterday lol. I’m pretty sure I could add 8-10 degrees below 12 psi on race gas, but I really wanted to just drive it home. Sounds kinda corny, but I felt success for a 1st time out with a functional trans and set of injectors. And I was very concerned about leaning out on the big end of the track. But it didn’t.

[/QUOTE]

Yes, I’ve thought of them.
I’m using the stock 8.8 axles. No issues yet.

Regarding the SEP’s, I’ve seen some people with real issues and I thought about the situation you described of being a limited use dyno queen. I don’t know really, maybe I’ve had some bad luck, who knows - the bottom line is that I’m done with them unless he wants to send me 2-3 new sets so I can swap them out as needed. I’m getting pretty good at swapping injectors on the fly lol.
But you’re probably correct, I’ll end up with 210’s. But they are in the same boat - I don’t see many builds with Bosch 210’s that are street driven much.

Forgot to mention - the heater delete program was questioned yesterday morning at 34 degrees with a 70+ mile ride.

Holy Schmoly, it went from Summer to deep Fall in week here.

I ran 210s on the my motor prior. You lose a little idle crispness but they work pretty good, only needed 14% WOT at 6k NA in my 6.0. You also gain a little fuel pump as they a made for 43psi. I bought them from VS Racing and got genuine Bosch.

Installed some meth injection. Repurposed the washer fluid reservoir. Hooked up my last output to run it. Hopefully it will drop the 205 degree intake temps to something more reasonable - sub 150. Using a 10 gal/hr nozzle presently. Going to get to the track at least once more before season end - say no rain, no rain, no rain. Will have to wait until the weekend of the 25th - due to overdue vacation for the next two weekends (keeps Momma happy).

A couple of guys on YB claim I was leaving 150hp on the table at 9 deg at 22 psi on C16 last time out. So I'm going to start at 16 deg and go from there. According the 'experts' I should be safe at 22-24 degrees. And if I can get my best of a 1.76 60' to 1.6, then I think I can reasonably reach a 9. And I don't think I have big enough (you know what) to go much faster with brakes that start slowing/working on the third pump at 130+. If I can pull that off on the 3rd time out, then I'll feel that 2020 wasn't a total wash - considering the 1st time out I smoked the trans the 1st time it shifted into 2nd lol.

If the meth (boost juice) actually adds any fuel to help out my injector size, 80lb dekas, then maybe I can play with the boost controller some. Probably getting ahead of myself though - trying to be somewhat realistic.

p.s. please don't get to carried away with my sloppy, 2 hour install. I'll clean it up when I'm sure it works and is a permanent fixture
