I talked about this a little on a different thread but need more info. Wondering which orifice tube I should use for my 83 H/O that I have already converted to 134. I'm in the process of replacing my condenser to a Spectra 4013, orifice and dryer because it just wasn't cooling when outside temp got above 80. I'n not sure which orifice is in there now. I'm waiting for one designed for above 105 ambient temp but not sure if it will work good. I do have a Murray RED 38902 Auto Adjustable, but it may be a used one. Some stores state which one is for 12 or 134. Is there a preferred one to use? I will be pissed if I have to evacuate the system again to replace a $3 orifice. I don't mind spending $30 if it is the better part.

When you converted to 134, did you replace the orifice tube then or check it for debris that could be clogging it? When I converted I just used the stock orifice tube and it cools really well. I think it's okay to re use them as along as they aren't full of junk.

When I first converted my system over to R-134A, I tried using the red orifice tube. Well., the shop that charged my system called me and said that the red orifice tube was causing it to freeze over. Fortunately, I had a new white orifice tube in the glove box. He ended up using that and all was well.
Apparently, the red orifice tube is for extreme climate temperatures.

I looked on O'Reilly web and that red one is a Murray for below 105, auto adjusting. That is where I bought that one. Back several years ago when I converted to 134 I did replace the orifice. Then I replaced it again when my then "new" compressor started leaking last year. They are different color orifice tubes but I don't think you can go by color. The 38902 is different colors depending on which site or vendor is selling it but the specs and price are the same.

I just pulled my orifice out, it's a red/black one, and dirty. I hated to see it dirty. Now I'm thinking I need to flush everything.

I didn't use the severe temp oriface. I put in the red one. New drier, condenser. Sucked it down and charged it. Still cold after a week.
