Hello, my original am/fm radio is starting to act up. One speaker up front one speaker in back works only sometimes. Than all four will work fine for a time.

I would like to keep the original radio if it can be repaired. I'm curious what it would cost to have it repaired?

Probably more than it would cost to buy a replacement.

First you find someone who works on the older units, that's probably going to be a mail order process.

So figure insured shopping costs 2 ways.

Then add a fee for time to diagnose problem at the repairer's rate, which I expect varies by area.

Then the cost to do the repair.

Someone good probably would have an idea of the issue just by listening to what's going on. I'd expect all in you're looking at at least a couple hundred though, unless you want to get a manual and try to fix it yourself.

Take it out spray this in it on the knobs and work them back and forth.

Then spray it again

There are a number of people who do it. Go to a larger swap meet and you will find a guy. I have a card or 2 laying around but they are Texas people. You may want to stay local. I'll dig out a number for you if you need me to.

Does Radio Shack even exist anymore?

Here is a similar product to what TURNA posted.....

They also sell it at Guitar Center. They use it to clean the rheostats (think volume control) in the guitars and amps. It's great stuff. Open up your radio and clean up the rheostats that control tone, balance, fade tuning and volume. This stuff is safe on plastic and paint so I don't think it will harm anything on that radio.

I would think the speakers would go before the unit..

Check speaker connections?
