Taking a short break from the roof rot...other rust and a dent to tackle. Dent in driver quarter I have been working on a little here and there. Was worse than what's in pic. Took out seat belt retractor inside car to access and access from trunk. Used an old ax handle to pry with while son taps lightly on outside with body hammer. Applied a little heat with torch. Some of it has popped out good. Ran out of ax handle length. Now going to try a 2x4 trimmed dow

Give me a few mr bob64. Dang "not so smart phone" acting dumb. It looks like it cut off half of what I was saying. 2x4 trimmed down that's a little longer to push with. A little crude but somewhat effective so far.

I'm guessing you don't have a stinger but if you got some rivets, rivet gun and a MIG/tig you can spot weld the core of the rivet to the dent and with rivet gun attached gentle pull it out. If it doesn't want to move lightly heat medal up, heat gun or hair dryer is enough. Remember to remove dent in the reverse of how it was caused, or lowest to deepest.

By stinger I assume you mean stud welder. I got one and returned it. Would not weld the studs to good and I cleaned down to bare metal. My mig welding skills are not the greatest, but I could give the rivet idea a shot if I need to. It was coming out decent I just ran out of axe handle. Lol

Other rust issue was in passenger door jamb. See pics. I cut out bad spot. Cleaned around it. Found another small hole under striker. Cleaned it I have some 20 gauge sheet metal I cut out patch from. Trimmed til it was just a tiny bit smaller than cut. Held it in place with magnet. Applied flux. Silver brazed it in and filled hole with it also. Used propane torch. Got some small holes to fill after I grinded some. Going to get in behind it after I remove seat belt retractor and clean a little before filling in the rest of the small holes. Not nearly as good as pop can do with brazing but not to bad I don't think and rust is gone and it's solid.

Nice work !! Yes l was talking stud welder, an a million other names for it !! Don't have to be a great welder to tack a rivet. I see that the dent is in the crease that's when you really need a "stud welder". The rivet thing will work but takes time and patience's, heat it from the outside in so as to remove the dent in reverse, don't pull to fast or you'll stretch the metal. IMG_20170514_213911.jpg

Yea the crease near the wheel well is the one that concerns me the most. Maybe I was using the stud welder wrong?? Just couldn't get the studs to weld, well not all of them. Started at the edges though like you said. And the puller harbor freight gives you grabs the stud and if it happens to break in puller...oh boy. Not a bad tool though. Just heating the area a little and tapping it lightly while applying pressure from behind was doing ok, just ran out of handle. May revisit the stud welder as you suggest.

1 of things l found is the sliding hammer, it works OK for big dents but not so well for little ones. I like visegrips on the stud to just pull evenly and in any direction, kind of wiggle it around to pop out dent .

There is softer and harder studs too, that could have been and issue.
