I always put the timing set on dot to dot, easier to see. I also have #1 at TDC of the compression stroke. If I do another full rotation, exhaust valve opens. Go back 1 full rotation, intake opens. This means I can drop the dizzy in with the rotor at #1 terminal, yes? Everything I read seems to indicate the opposite. But ive always done it this way and it's worked.

Any input is appreciated. Maybe im just over thinking it.

I worded it weird, but imagine I'm starting from the "middle" position. Start at B, go to C, back to B, backwards to A.

What confuses me mainly is, every single forum post, and service manual I've read says #1 at TDC is on the exhaust stroke with dot to dot timing, but I'm at compression. I'm sure it will be fine, as it's how I've always done it, but it's perplexing. and post nailhead buicks have the standard GM cylinder numbering and firing order.

Turning the crank in the 'correct' direction, when the intake opens and then closes, your 'zero' or 'TDC' mark on the balancer will soon after line up with the 'zero' or 'TDC' mark on the timing tab. Drop the distributor in pointing wherever you want #1 to be and install the wires. If the dots are causing confusion you can put the timing cover on and they won't be an issue anymore. At least I know it makes the dots disappear on a Buick 455. :p

It's always been confusing to me why they didn't set the timing dots to be TDC compression stroke.
