I recall reading here where someone had done a custom touch and painted their window switches black.
I have my door panels off and was going to put everything back together today but got thinking about doing this to mine.
Could I go over them with some fine 1600 paper and wipe down with thinner and then a couple of light coats of spray paint ??
I think it would look cool !!

Paper that fine might not scuff up the chrome enough to give it enough tooth for it to stick(think paint like it needs a mechanical adhesion).try a scuff pad just enough to break the shine

I would use a Scothbrite pad and then some adhesive promoter before paint.

I'm not sure if you've got the paint already lined up but if not check out sem's line of trim black paints, they're designed to go on all kinds of surfaces without the use of an additional primer/subsequent adhesion promoters.

The scuff pad I had was too fine to do anything so I used some 400 then 800 grit paper and wiped off with thinner.
I didn't have any adhesive promoter or SEM trim paint, just some glossy black rust paint.
3 light coats and I let it sit in the sun all day and now its drying for the night and I'll put them back on tomorrow.
Time will tell how it works …

I let both switches dry overnight and put them in just now.

Time will tell how well the paint stays on.If it doesent stay on next year I will get the SEM paint and try again.

Hopefully if they get scratched it doesn't go down to the chrome, I am surprised you have power windows but no power locks.

I had a '79 Landau that had power window with out power locks. Don't forget back when our cars were built they still had real options to pick from.
