Thought I posted this already but couldn’t find it, anyway, doing a 5.3/4l60e and turbo in my ‘85 Regal. Definitely want to keep the ac but with all the lines on the passenger side it looks like it will be difficult to clear everything. Has anyone done a drivers side turbo? Only issue I see is the steering shaft and getting a down pipe thru there. Thanks for any ideas.

Looking for a response on this as well..

I am drawing out a plan myself that involves notching the frame to fit the low mounted A/C system and run a turbo on the passenger side, but I have not really seen anyone post on here that it has been done yet. I really do not want to have to do a tubular cross-member and front end.. but if it comes down to not running air conditioning in a black monte.... lol

Good luck! (Subscribed)

I ended up putting the turbo on the drivers side, kept the ac, kept the stock battery location, kept the radiator overflow and windshield wiper reservoirs in stock location. Wrapping it up now, but I like it better than the passenger side because I wanted to keep the battery where it was. Hate those shut off switches you have to run if you put it in the trunk and want to go to the track.
Will end up running a high mount ac setup since there’s plenty of room for that now, low mount looks pretty difficult...

Make any progress on this?
Actually yes, got it all finished. Couldn’t be happier. Junkyard 4.8 (was sold to me as a 5.3 but it wasn’t) stock cam and everything except injectors, made 321 to the wheels on 6psi. I added another spring and psi went up to 9ish and felt like it doubled in power. Can’t keep the wheels from spinning! I’m sold on these LS engines, unreal for the $ invested. Here’s a few pics let me know if you have any specific questions, I’m glad to answer. I never did put the ac compressor on but as you can see there’s a ton of room for a high mount.

That is a very clean install and still maintaining the front battery location and AC - well done.

Only question - why stop at 9? You must have another spring in that kit?

Thank you!
So good question, seems it won’t make anymore boost. I have three springs in there now and boost won’t go up. Maybe the turbo is too big for this little stock cammed motor? Me and the tuner haven’t been able to figure it out, he thought it might be restricted exhaust so I ditched the muffler and same thing. Put the muffler back on cause it’s WAY to loud. Cheap Chinese wastegate and turbo, but I’m still thrilled with it

Thanks for the update. I've had it in my mind that it would be cool to be able to pipe a drivers side set-up because of the A/C issues. That's what started my investigation of set-ups & how I came across this thread. I can get the jest of the plumbing arrangement/s but if you have any other pics of exhaust you could possibly add, that would be cool.

Someone told me it was ok to put both the o2 sensors where I put them but the tuner said they would make more trouble than good so we capped them.
4” tailpipe kit from Summit, was made by Flowmaster for diesels, was only $150 and worked fine.

What are you running for a boost controller? 3 or 4 port MAC valve?
