I found this a few years ago. I've used it to coat antique tools, anvils etc. I coated a G Body frame I have outside. A month or so ago I wanted to empty a can and basically clear coated a parts car with it, and spots on so.e other cars.
A can goes a long way. I just use a disposable paint brush.
I tried Fluidfilm and hated it. Expensive, stinks and washes off easily.

Penetrol by Flood. ~$20 a quart at Home Depot

Anyone else try it?

I just Google searched this product, isn't it Oil based? ...and wouldn't it react to a new paint job in the future unless every drop of it was removed from the surfaces? I like you idea though about at least protecting the surfaces from any further deterioration, id say on a frame would be ideal.

Yes, I will be using it on the frames of my daily drivers. The blue 78 is basically bare rusted metal at this point. I've had the car so long I can't remember where I got it lol.
It may just be a stray that wandered in.
Not sure about effects of topcaoting issues

I've never heard of it but I've used Fluid Film pretty successfully. I'd be interested in trying it.

Fluid Film is a wax based coating meant to protect your underbody from road salt for a winter. Like regular body wax, it must be reapplied every year, I use similar stuff on my CVPI and leftover on my Dad's Jeep. There are a lot of different brands of oil and wax based anti rust protective coatings.

Looking up info about Penetrol, the manufacturer states it cannot be topcoated with 2K automotive paints, ie 2 part epoxy or urethane coatings.
